Avril Lennox was born in Leicester, but came down to Lewisham every Sunday to train at the Ladywell Centre. She was the youngest British participant at the Munich Games, being 16. She participated in the Munich and Montreal games, in the Women's Team event and individually in the Floor Exercise, Horse Vault, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam. In 1978 she was awarded the MBE by the Queen for services to the sport of gymnastics.
